That's the Holy Spirit. Telling you that you are being called. To a higher place--out of the pain and hurt and suffering. Out of the misery and the anger. To a life of Joy and Purpose, Love and Hope, Forgiveness and Healing. How? Once again the answer will surprise you. Not because it's so difficult but because, in one sense, it's so easy. You need to say a prayer. Not just any prayer. A prayer which has been prayed by millions before you--asking Jesus Christ to enter your heart and become the Lord of your life. Relinquishing your life for His. Oh, one more thing. You have to pray the prayer sincerely. So here goes. "Dear Jesus, I am a sinner. In the past I have walked my own way and I have done wrong. But now I confess that sin to you. I believe you died on the cross to pay the price for my sin. I believe you rose from the dead to show that you have overcome evil. From now on I want to walk with You. I ask You to come into my heart to live within me forever. Amen"
What happened? Are you crying? Some people do. Did you just feel a great weight lift off your shoulders? Some people do. Or maybe you didn't feel anything? Does it seem the "magic spell" didn't work? Believe me--that doesn't matter. God has promised to give Eternal Life in Heaven to anyone who will believe in his heart and confess with his mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord. That's all that matters--don't be deceived by feelings.
There are two more things you ought to do now. 1) Get a Bible. They're not expensive (less than $8). Start reading your Bible. And 2) find a church. Ask a friend. Or drive around. Or call around. Ask one question--if the church says one thing and the Bible says something else--which am I to believe? If the answer isn't an unhesitating "believe the Bible" thank them, leave quickly and find another church. Don't feel bad about "trying out" a few churches before you settle on one. Pray.
